S
hamwari Game Reserve in the Eastern Cape and
sister property Sanbona Wildlife Reserve near Cape
Town, in conjunction with GOLD Restaurant and Stir
Crazy Cooking School, have opened two unique cooking
school experiences aptly named COOKING WILD.
Open all year, COOKING WILD presents the
opportunity to learn to cook or perfect your skills whilst
enjoying the best of the African bush on a Big 5 safari in a
choice of two unique locations.
During this culinary experience, guests will enjoy
educational game drives, bush lunches and hone their
culinary skills at a luxury lodge, with the final evening
culminating in a bush dinner. The experience runs for
either five days (four nights) or seven days (six nights) and
is open to guests from 12 years of age upwards.
The experience includes accommodation, meals and
game drives as well as the ingredients required for the
20
cooking course. House wines will also be served with all
meals at no extra charge, with premium wines and other
spirits available for purchase.
One cooking experience (minimum two guests) will take
place at each game reserve per month, with additional
dates available for groups of six or more, subject to
availability. Sanbona Wildlife Reserve’s cooking school can
accommodate eight guests, and Shamwari Game Reserve’s
can cater for 12. The cooking focus at the locations
varies, as each is influenced by local customs, ingredients,
cultures and traditions.
As examples, guests will learn to master the tagines of
Morocco, the spices of Zanzibar, the curries of the Cape,
and open fire cooking under the African sky, to name just
a few. A certificate of completion will be presented on the
last day of the unforgettable experience.
