If you don’t have a suitable boat to head out to the shelf beyond the reefs, join a charter with an experienced crew. Charters regularly depart for the reef where you can fish for kingfish, snapper and tuna but they will operate the big game charters when the marlin and Yellowfin are out and about. Narooma is the launch point for Montague Island; a nature reserve that is abundant with wildlife. Apart from staying in the historic lighthouse keeper’s cottage and enjoying the nightly penguin parade, swimming with hundreds of fur seals off the island is definitely one for the bucket list. These puppies of the sea seem to enjoy the human interaction they get from swimmers, snorkelers and divers.
