The process of planning a wedding is different for each couple and while it can be planned in a very short period of time, it ' s recommended that you spend a year or more ensuring everything is as perfect as can be; it is after all, one of the most special and important days of your life!
To help you avoid any potential planning pitfalls, we ' ve compiled some tried and tested tips and advice.
Start early
By starting the planning process at least a year in advance, you can ensure your first choice of venues, suppliers and dates.
Be realistic with your budget
When drawing up your budget consider every aspect of the day and be sure to set aside a contingency just in case.
Trimming the guest list
Some venues might not have a large seating capacity for the ceremony. Instead, simply invite your nearest and dearest to the ceremony and your entire guest list to the reception.
Booking the honeymoon
Remember to book in your maiden name and use your existing passport before changing your documents to your married name once you return. It ' s also important to remember any vaccinations that you might need before you leave for your honeymoon.
Take out wedding insurance
Wedding insurance isn’ t as costly as many think and it certainly isn ' t as emotionally and financially devastating as being let down by a supplier.
Choose your bridal gown well in advance
When deciding on your wedding dress, it ' s important to time it right. Off-the-peg dresses should be bought 4-6 weeks before the wedding day for any alterations; designer dresses should be ordered 4-6 months in advance and bespoke couture gowns 12 months before the date to allow for it to be designed, brought to life and fitted perfectly.
Plan ahead for DIY weddings
If you have decided to make your own wedding stationery, centrepieces and favours, remember to consider the time and materials it will take to not only make the items themselves but to practice and perfect through trial and error.
Create an emergency wedding kit
Consider everything that could go wrong. Make sure you ' ve packed your make-up and a mirror, a needle and thread for tiny rips and tears, pain relief and a spare tie.
Hand over the supplier list
Hand over the contact details and time of arrival of all suppliers to someone you trust so they can take charge if something go wrong.
