Book Club
Darts: Player By Player by Andrew O’Brien offers a fascinating
insight into the careers and lives of the 50 most influential
players ever to play our wonderful sport.
The book features chapters on a wide range of players, from the
early days of Leighton Rees and Alan Evans, through
the golden age of the 80s and players like Bristow,
Lowe, Deller and Anderson as well as focusing on some
of the modern players who have influenced the PDC
era, including the likes of Michael van Gerwen, James
Wade and Adrian Lewis.
Of course there is also a chapter reserved for the greatest
player ever to fling tungsten at sisal, the one and only Phil
Taylor, and an in depth look at some of those who were
instrumental in forming the breakaway PDC including Rod
Harrington.
Perhaps the best compliment I can pay Darts: Player by Player
is that as a darts fan and player for over 10 years and a writer
for the last 3 the book still had some great interesting nuggets
of knowledge that before reading I was totally unaware of.
For example did you know that an anagram of Martin Adams
is “I’m A Darts Man”.
The book will also teach any fan about some of the history
of the sport, the breakaway of the WDC (now the PDC)
and a lot more besides. For me it is a must read for
all darts fans, no matter what your level of knowledge
of the game Darts: Player by Player will without a
shadow of a doubt teach you something you didn’t
previously know.
