The final event of the European Tour season, The Dutch Darts
Masters, was held in Veldhoven, Holland over the weekend
of 25th, 26th and 27th October and it was Kim Huybrechts
who took the spoils in the prestigious event, in the process
moving into the World’s top 16 and booking his place at the
Coral Masters, due to be held the following weekend.
“It’s been a great
couple of weeks
for me”

First Round
Home favourites Michael van Gerwen and Raymond van Barneveld both
overcame edgy first round encounters, with the former overcoming
another Dutchman in the form of Vincent van der Voort in a tense
deciding leg and the latter too suffering some scary moments as he
overcame qualifier Andrew Gilding 6-3.
Gino Vos became the third Dutch player to reach the second round on
home soil as he fought off a comeback from the experienced Richie
Burnett to hold out for a 6-4 victory.
The remaining three Dutch stars in action all suffered first round
defeats, with Jelle Klaasen being edged out 6-5 by the Bolton-based
Ross Smith, Jerry Hendriks falling 6-2 to Colin Lloyd and debutant Davy
Verkooijen losing out to Andy Hamilton, again by a 6-2 scoreline.
Belgium’s Kim Huybrechts got his campaign off to a flying start as he
averaged over 102 in a 6-2 victory over Dean Winstanley. He was joined
in the second round by brother Ronny, who whitewashed former World
Youth Champion Aaron Monk with a fine performance.
