In the pairs captain Tony O’Shea and Stephen Bunting
secured victory for England after they defeated the
South African pairing of Meiring and Grobbelaar 6-0
in a one-sided final. Bunting was also unlucky not to
add the singles title to his pairs crown, indeed the
World No. 1 fell at the final hurdle as he lost out 7-6
to Wesley Harms of the Netherlands in a deciding
leg.
In the overall points table the England team of
Bunting, O’Shea, Scott Waites and Glen Durrant did
enough to secure the title with 127 points, while
Scotland came second overall with 102 points.
The youth event was won by Australia, with Jamie
Rundle claiming the boys singles after a 6-0 victory
over Quin Wester of the Netherlands and Tiarna Smith
finishing runner-up to Casey Gallagher of England in
the girls singles. The duo were also runners-up in the
Youth Mixed Pairs, losing out to Canada in the final.
The youth points table was the closest of all, with
champions Australia on 69 points, England in second
place on 61 and Canada on 56 points in third.

England’s men reached the semi-finals of the team
event where they fell to eventual runners-up USA,
meanwhile Scotland led by Ross Montgomery came
through a semi-final with Sweden before moving on
to secure victory with a 9-7 defeat of USA in the
final.

This meant that the England ladies also secured the
overall title by a comfortable margin with a total of
60 points, their nearest rivals being Canada on 37
points.

England’s women claimed both the pairs event,
through Deta Hedman and Trina Gulliver and the
singles after Deta Hedman secured a 7-5 victory over
Irina Armstrong in a thrilling final.

overall titles at the 2013 WDF World Cup that
was held in Canada, whilst the future looks
bright for Australia who claimed the youth
title.
