This tactical ability allows Taylor to live with, and indeed defeat the group of players who it could be argued possess a more natural talent for the sport than he does himself. Taylor’s dedication goes way beyond the arena and the practice board, over recent years he has confounded his critics with his longevity. Time and again Taylor has been written off as being on the wane, but time and again he has raised his game, producing bigger averages and more tournament victories. Indeed he broke his own record for the highest average in a World Matchplay final only last month. This longevity is in part due to the amount of time he spends on his fitness, hours in the gym, long walks and healthy eating often mean that long after opponents half his age have begun to sweat under the pressure of the match and the heat on stage Taylor can be seen looking cool, calm and collected at the back of the stage waiting to take his turn at the oche, waiting to turn up the heat.
