before long he began his TV career, working alongside Dave Lanning providing commentary for regional TV coverage of the sport. Following the split in darts in 1993 Gwynne and Lanning were the natural choices for Sky Sports and they commentated together on the 1994 World Championships. The third member of the ‘originals’, Sid Waddell was still working for the BBC at the time, but his switch to Sky happened in time for the trio to work together on the 1994 World Matchplay. As well as being a commentator John is also a prolific writer, having contributed columns to both Darts World and a string of local newspapers over the years. And as if all of this didn’t keep him busy enough John regularly acts as a toastmaster and MC at darts events and exhibitions.
