The top stars from the BDO headed to Belgium over the weekend of
1st-3rd August for the 2014 Belgium Open and when all was said and
done it was Wales captain Martin Philips who emerged victorious from
the event after defeating Wesley Harms by three sets to two in a close
final.
Philips had earlier overcome Brian Dawson in the semi-finals as well
as defeating Scott Waites in a last leg decider to win the pairs quarter
final encounter.
Harms, meanwhile, had overcome Jamie Hughes, Martin Adams and
Ted Hankey, who had his best run since returning to the BDO, to book
his spot in the final although in the end he fell desperately short.
In the ladies event Aileen de Graaf overcame Zoe Jones 2-0 in sets to lift
the title after previously defeating Sharon Prins and Fallon Sherrock.
Tamara van der Meirsch won the girls singles, whilst Colin Roelofs
claimed victory in the boys and the mens and womens pairs events
were won by Kim Huybrechts and Ronny Huybrechts as well as Trina
Gulliver and Zoe Jones.
