England National Singles
The England Darts Organisation certainly know how to make
the most of a venue, indeed there were youth, ladies and
mens events for two tournaments over the weekend of 12th
and 13th July in Hull.
The first part of the weekend saw the England National Singles
take place and when all was said and done it was Steve Carrett of
Cambridgeshire who lifted the trophy after defeating George Killington
of London 7-6 in the final.
It was to the disappointment of some fans that all of the so called
big names made early exits from the tournament before the stage
finals and therefore did not appear on the live coverage broadcast by
Eurosport.
But those that made it through were still able to put on a good show,
with Paul Hogan and Dennis Harbour in particular showing the strength
in depth of the county system.
In the ladies event Anastasia Dobromyslova defeated Lorraine
Winstanley 4-3 in a close final, whilst Casey Gallagher continued to
rack up the titles with victory over Josie Patterson in the girls event.
Unfortunately the boys final did not take place after it emerged that
one of the finalists was over the age limit for the tournament, an
oversight which in fairness has prompted an immediate reaction for
the EDO who now require all players wishing to be eligible for their
youth events to register their details in advance.
