Michael van Gerwen set up the dream final between the top two players
in the World as he defeated Simon Whitlock 17-13 in another thriller
of a semi-final.
Whitlock led 7-5 early on, but once the Dutchman had levelled
proceedings at 7-7 he never looked back, moving into a two leg lead
which he was able to maintain throughout the middle of the match
before a surge at the end saw him complete the victory,
The World Champion averaged a shade under the 100 mark, but he was
able to checkout at 55% and produce an impressive seven 180s as he
booked his place in the final at Blackpool for the first time.
“It’s amazing to be in the final,” said van Gerwen. “I love this
tournament and I’ve got one mission, which is to win this title.
