Meanwhile Magnus Caris ended the challenge of Jerry Hendriks and Dave Pallett defeated Jamie Lewis. Second Round Photo: PDC Europe The top 16 players from the Pro Tour Order of Merit entered the tournament at the second round stage, although there were shocks aplenty as the lower ranked players looked to put their mark on the tournament. Jamie Caven fell early to an in form Andrew Gilding, with the less experienced man producing a fine display to come away with a 6-1 victory. Robert Thornton and Andy Hamilton soon joined Caven on the plane home as they fell victim to Vincent van der Voort and David Pallett respectively, whilst John Henderson upset the odds with a 6-5 victory over Peter Wright. Stephen Bunting’s fine debut run continued as he put pay to the challenge of Justin Pipe, whilst Michael Smith completed the upsets by defeating Mervyn King 6-5. Phil Taylor and Michael van Gerwen both enjoyed whitewash victories over Magnus Caris and Jyhan Artut respectively, whilst Simon Whitlock found some form to defeat Jani Haavisto 6-4. Wes Newton, Steve Beaton and Dave Chisnall all came through in relative comfort and the third round line-up was completed by Ian White, Brendan Dolan, Kim Huybrechts and Adrian Lewis. Third Round Stephen Bunting continued his run of victories on debut as he defeated Brendan Dolan 6-3 and he was joined in the quarter finals by fellow non-seed Vincent van der Voort who was able to edge out Ian White 6-5. Andrew Gilding’s impressive run came to an abrupt end as he crashed out 6-1 to Michael Smith, whose reward would be a quarter final clash with Phil Taylor after the sixteen-time World Champion overcame Dave Chisnall 6-3. John Henderson set up a quarter final with Adrian Lewis, who had earlier defeated Kim Huybrechts 6-2, after he ended the run of Simon Whitlock to become the third unseeded player into the last eight.
