A Big Step Ladies Darts Organisation Is Officially Recognised By The BDO The sport of darts, and in particular the ladies game, received the governing body of darts. I am another boost earlier this month when the BDO officially absolutely delighted that this has now happened and look forward recognised the Ladies Darts Organisation. to working with the BDO for the benefit of lady dart players all over the world.” Photo: Mike Glover/UK Darts Magazine “We have been successful in holding several well attended tournaments over the last 18 months and look forward to a bright future – this decision from the BDO Board of Directors is a show of confidence in the strength of the organisation”. Of course official recognition on its own is nothing more than a rubber stamp from the BDO, but the LDO have big plans to move the ladies game forwards? BDO Chairperson Sue Williams made the official announcement through the BDO website, saying, “It was with great pleasure that I was able to announce to the delegates at the meeting that the board had agreed to formally recognise the LDO.” “The LDO board have worked very hard to increase their membership, organise and deliver very successful tournaments, with their main aim to promote the best for the game of ladies darts. This can only help and improve the image and coverage of the ladies game and it has been long overdue.” The LDO, who were originally formed two years ago with the aim of securing increased exposure and prize money for lady dart players, have been working hard for a long time to gain this recognition and it will no doubt prove a major boost to all involved to have secured the backing of one of the sports governing bodies. Whilst the recognition in itself does not automatically guarantee increased prize finds and more competitions for lady players it does represent an opportunity for LDO Chairperson Julie Lambie is now keen to move the organisation forward, “Since the organisation was founded in February 2012 our aim has been to gain official recognition from Photo: Mike Glover/UK Darts Magazine
