Newcastle’s Metro Radio Arena was the venue for the
penultimate round of league matches in this season’s Betway
Premier League of Darts. With Michael van Gerwen and
Raymond van Barneveld already assured of their play-off
places there was a battle hotting up for third and fourth place.
Phil Taylor was in a position to secure his spot with a victory over
Peter Wright, whilst Wright himself was still very much in the hunt as
was Gary Anderson whose fine run of form had seen him move into a
favourable position.
Gary Anderson 7-4 Dave Chisnall
The opening two legs of this match were won against the throw, with
Chisnall moving in front but being immediately pegged back. Things
soon settled down and the next four all went with throw as the pair
raced to 3-3.
Anderson held again in the seventh and was then able to produce
what would prove to be the decisive break of throw to move 5-3 in
front. Chisnall did fight back, landing a 180 as he tried to break
back, but Anderson held on to secure a point and as the final two
legs went with throw the Scotsman had his qualification destiny
in his own hands.
“It’s great to get the win and I’ll want to win next week to
make sure I’m in the play-offs, but it’s good that it’s in my
hands,” said Anderson.
“I was a bit nervous tonight and we both struggled on our doubles
a bit early on there, and if I’d hit my doubles first then it would
“I’m making it hard
work for myself but
I’m enjoying it at
the same time”
