Premier League: Week 7 Michael van Gerwen 7-5 Gary Anderson Michael van Gerwen was pushed all the way by a resurgent Gary Anderson in this match. The pair traded leg after leg as the scoreline moved on to 5-5 and the match looked to be heading for a draw. “It was an amazing night” Michael van Gerwen It wasn’t to be for the Scotsman however, as he was broken in the eleventh leg, as van Gerwen secured at least a point. The Dutchman then went on to hold throw for the sixth time, courtesy of an impressive 11-dart leg that saw him wrap up the victory. “I’m very pleased with this win and I did the right things at the right time at the end of the game,” said van Gerwen. “We’ve had some great games and I showed tonight that I was the best, and now I’m top of the league and very happy with that. “I want to stay there and I will work very hard to stay there, but my aim is to win the tournament and there’s a long way to go. This result will give me a lot of confidence because I had to work hard to win the game tonight. “It was an amazing night. It’s the first time we’ve played here and it was packed, and I think every one of the crowd enjoyed the night.” Phil Taylor 7-1 Wes Newton Phil Taylor’s revival continued as he pulled himself out of the bottom two with an impressive victory over Wes Newton that left the Fleetwoodbased thrower in danger of being relegated. Taylor took the opening two legs of the match, before Newton responded, landing a 108 checkout to get off the mark. But it was not to be for the former UK Open finalist, who soon found himself 4-1 down, despite Taylor missing a nine-dart opportunity in the fifth leg. I’m not nervous any more whereas I was earlier in the season, because I wasn’t quite comfortable. “Getting the two points was the most important thing tonight and I don’t want to get knocked out in the relegation in a couple of weeks - I want to move on up the table now and try and get this title back.” “I want to move on up the table now and try and get this title back” Phil Taylor
