This year sees only six UK Open Qualifiers on
the calendar and the pressure to get in a good
early result brought the big guns out in Wigan
on February 7th when the floor tournament
season got underway.
Qualifier 1
Andy Hamilton ended his long wait for a PDC
tournament victory as he took the first of the
season’s UK Open Qualifiers with a 6-2 victory over
Adrian Lewis in the final, claiming £10,000 for his
efforts.
There were big wins for Andy Hamilton,
Stephen Bunting and Phil Taylor on a weekends Hamilton also defeated Michael van Gerwen, Dave
action that saw no less than six nine-darters. Chisnall and Kevin Painter as he secured his spot in
the 2014 UK Open on the first day of action in Wigan.
There were an impressive three nine-darters on
day one, with Terry Jenkins, Dave Ladley and Dave
Chisnall all completing the feat, although it was only
Chisnall who went on to make the later stages of the
tournament, eventually falling to Hamilton in the
semi-finals.
Adrian Lewis’ run to the final included big wins
over Peter Wright and Justin Pipe and the £5,000
he secured should be more than enough to see him
safely through to the UK Open in March.
