The BBC have helped too this
year by broadcasting all but
one of the ladies matches,
albeit mostly behind the Red
Button service, and it appears
that only a scheduling error
prevented the Trina Gulliver/
Tamara Schuur game from being
shown as well. Considering last
years efforts that is a great
step forward and something
which the BBC and BDO must
be applauded for.

There will also be more money
than ever before available on
the ladies tour this year, with
not only the World Trophy
coming into existence but also
more tournaments from the
extremely well organised LDO
(Ladies Darts Organisation).

The time is nearly upon us when
a select, albeit small, group of
ladies can make a living out of
playing darts, a vision which
only a few years ago seemed to
be light years away.
All in all ladies darts is in great
shape, and whilst the BDO
may be hindering their mens
tour, with restrictive contracts
to block player movement
and a lack of commercial
opportunities,
they
are
certainly getting things right
on the ladies side of things
and with luck there is more
to come. The BDO must now
take their role as a governing
body seriously as they look to
develop the ladies game over
coming years, but if they do
they are certainly on the right
track.
