Ladies Lakeside
World Championship
The 2014 Lakeside Ladies World Professional Darts
Championships was the biggest in the history of the ladies
game, not just because of the expansion of the field from 8
to 16 players but also because the coverage whilst not perfect
was much improved when compared to that of recent years.
It may well be then that Lisa Ashton, who was crowned champion on
Saturday 11th January after a gruelling eight days of competition, will
become one of the more recognisable faces of the game over the weeks
and months to come.

After Thrilling
Comeback
Ashton may well by now be relaxing and enjoying her status as a World
Champion, but her route to glory was not an easy one, as we shall find
out.
First Round
Lisa Ashton got her campaign off to a great start as she overcame a
tough opponent in the form of Aileen de Graaf, who only weeks earlier
had claimed her maiden major title at the Zuiderduin Masters. In a
closely fought contest Ashton needed a deciding third set to progress
safely through to the quarter finals.
There was a shock defeat for nine-time World Champion Trina Gulliver,
who fell victim qualifier Tamara Schuur of the Netherlands in the only
match of the tournament that received absolutely no coverage.
