Attempts by the BDO to rectify
this situation had up until recently
been negative in their nature, with
bans imposed on players attending
Q-School and further reductions
in the amount of coverage that
the BDO’s two major tournament
receive.
Indeed if, like myself, you are
a big fan of darts in general
regardless of the organisation in
which it is played then you will
surely have been left dismayed
by developments on the BDO side
of the fence over recent years.
It was then with great enthusiasm
that I first read about the
formation of a new commercial
arm to the BDO, known as
BDO Events Ltd. They will be
responsible for bringing new
tournaments to a wider audience
than ever before.
It is no secret that fans have become disgruntled
with the BDO’s organisation and coverage of major
tournaments recently and by the steady movement
of players across the darting divide to ply their
trade in the PDC.
My excitement was peaked
further having met up with
members of the team in
December and of course upon
learning that there was to be a
new major tournament to be
held in the famous Blackpool
Tower venue in February.
