Friday 13th is often considered an unlucky day, but not
so for the 72 players who headed to Alexandra Palace on
Friday 13th December to contest the Ladbrokes World Darts
Championships.
This year saw the biggest prize pot in the history of darts as the players
competed for a first prize of £250,000 and an overall fund that was in
excess of £1,000,0000.
The action got underway with a week of preliminary and first round
games, with the majority of the second round played before a three
day Christmas break, after which the remaining players returned for
the conclusion of a tournament which culminated on New Years Day
with the crowning of Michael van Gerwen as 2014 Ladbrokes World
Darts Champion
Preliminary Round
The preliminary round proved to be the best in the history of
the tournament, with players from as far afield as Malaysia and
Singapore aiming to book their respective places in the first round
proper.
