Using dance to diversify the arts scene
Cohesion Plus was created in 2008 and use the arts to break down barriers , connect communities , showcase culturally diverse art forms and celebrate the diversity of the arts scene in the UK .
Cohesion Plus are one of the few providers of culturally diverse outdoor activity , events and productions in the South East of England , showcasing music and dance from around the world .
Currently the organisation delivers more than 20 outdoor events throughout the year across
Cohesion Plus ’ team of performers outside the UK Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai
Kent ranging from large scale Mela Festivals , to lantern parades and festivals as well as celebrations for Saint George ’ s Day , Eid and Black History Month to name a few .
The organisation ’ s Artistic Director , Gurvinder Sander MBE , has been working and performing in the arts for over 30 years from producing events to performing Bhangra , a traditional dance from Punjab in Northern India where his parents were born .
Gurvinder has taken Cohesion Plus , an organisation that used to deliver a handful of events annually , to now being an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation that is nationally recognised as one of the leading delivers of culturally diverse outdoor events and productions . As a dancer he has had the opportunity to perform all over the world , bringing the artform of Bhangra to audiences that would never have otherwise had the opportunity to experience it .
In March 2022 a Cohesion Plus team of seven British born artists were in the UAE as part of a British Council supported project working with the Sharjah Performing Arts Academy . Whilst in the UAE they were asked to perform at the Expo outside the British Pavilion .
The performance showcased the modern day , culturally diverse Britain and the rich heritage
