INTRODUCTION
This month I am delighted to have caught
up at last with one of the ‘big beasts’ from
the Cigar world. Our video interview
this month is with James Suckling who
cut his teeth at Cigar Aficionado and
more recently has struck out on his own
creating the wonderful documentary
film Cigars – The Heart and Soul of Cuba
and, with his eye on the changes in the
relationship between the US and Cuba, has
recently launched his latest project. James
discussed his views on where the Cuban
Cigar industry will go as relations with the
US ‘normalise’.
You may not be aware of it but there have been a
round of Cigar Trade Fairs over the last few weeks
and these are the launch pad for many of the new
brands and lines of cigars. The British Fair took
place in Nottingham over the past week end and
saw a flurry of activity with the launch in the UK
of the phenomenon that is Drew Estate and new
cigar lines and Limited Edition and Regional
Edition cigars from The New World and Cuba.
We continue our quest for the best cigar to enjoy
with your coffee this month and in addition to our
panel testing three more cigars we have asked a
number of our friends for their best combinations
with some very interesting results.
If any of you have ever lost some of your prized
cigars you may have thought carefully about how
they were covered for Insurance. We have done
a quick survey of UK cigar lovers and discovered
that many collections aren’t likely to be covered.
We have also spoken to a major collector who has
everything totally under control. I can anticipate a
few spreadsheets being created and some calls to
insurance brokers next week.
As usual we also have pictures from some great
UK cigar events and a full diary looking forward.
So grab a coffee, spark up a cigar and enjoy the
October issue.
