Cigars & Coffee Recommendations from Our Friends
We asked some of our friends what their favourite cigars and coffee combinations were:
“My cigars with tea or coffee are far more
continent upon time of day or meal. But all that
said my go to cigars with a midday macchiato are
Bolivar PC and Monte 4, and very rarely a Cohiba
Maduro 5.
I rarely drink coffee, more of a tea guy, and when
I do drink coffee it is only iced cold brew or an
espresso macchiato.”
- Aaron Sigmond, Cigar writer, New York
“I enjoy a Por Larranaga Petit Corona with coffee.
I only drink coffee in the mornings and as such
I take on a light cigar to complement it. The
caramel tastes that I get from a PLPC are very
complementary. I only drink black sugarless
coffee. Usually an Americano.”
- Justin , A cigar lover, East Anglia
“Cigar - Quai d’orsay panatela
Coffee - I prefer home-made moka pot, Cubita or
Serrano, done the Cuban way: with a bit of brown
sugar added to the ground coffee in the pot so it
gets brewed together. Then, a bit of milk.”
- Pedro Mendes, Cigar lover, broadcaster and
dapper man about town, Toronto.
“Cigar -Siglo 6. Coffee - Black, neat.”
- David Gumin, Cigar lover, hates writing! London
“Kopi Luwak coffee (non-farmed wild only),
or on a much more affordable level, Brazilian
Santos with a creamy nutty smoke such as a
Diplomaticos no2 A Por Larranaga Montecarlo is
also phenomenal with some Brazilian Santos.”

“I’m a big fan of Long Panatelas with coffee.
Unfortunately many are no longer made or are
impossible to find. These include: El Rey del
Mundo Grandes de España, La Gloria Cubana
Medaille d’Or No.1 and Montecristo Especiales.
For a quick hit of power with a strong Americano,
I often herf a Partagás Short. Lately I have become
a big fan of the new Montecristo Petit No.2 which
goes well with coffee. My go-to smoke on my last
Havana week was the R y J Cedros Deluxe No.3
with freshly roasted coffee at el Escorial in Plaza
Vieja.”
- Mike Barrett, Cigar lover & traveller,
Whistler, Canada
“Hi Nic, I am a big fan of coffee and cigar, my
favourite pairing is a Cohiba Robustos Supremo
LE 2014 with an Illy double espresso with a scoop
of chocolate ice cream inside. I think the flavour
of the Supremo (coffee and cocoa) would marry at
the perfection the kick of the Illy espresso with the
sweetness of creamy homemade ice cream.”
- Giuseppe Ruo, Cigar Lover, Food & Beverage
Director at The Wellesley, London
“Usually I enjoy medium or full flavour cigars with
my coffee, my brands of choice would be Partagas,
Bolivar or Montecristo. My favourite cigars
with short espresso have to be Partagas D6 and
Montecristo media corona, if I’m enjoying long
coffee then my favourite size is Piramide.
The aroma of freshly ground coffee is priceless.
My favourite brand is Cohiba Atmosphere, rich
round coffee perfect as Americano with cocoa
leather and tobacco flavour profiles. My second
choice is Lavazza coffee beans -perfect for Espresso
or Cappuccino, good choice of coffee for cheeky
espresso martini.”
