The Crossing Point cafe
In Kirby Lonsdale
The crossing point cafe opened on 17th November
2014 in the beautiful Cumbrian market town of
Kirkby Lonsdale. The cafe was the brainchild of
husband and wife, John and Renata Strange.
on the premises by Renata. Coffee is supplied by
award-winning Cumbrian coffee roasters, Carvetii.
There is also a huge range of loose-leaf teas from
New Leaf Tea Tasters, also from Cumbria.
John has a long career in hospitality under his belt,
including a successful career working in the fine
dining area, most recently for Simon Rogan, as his
Restaurant Manager in Cartmel.
Most recently they opened their boutique wine
shop, within the cafe, which includes a humidor
with carefully selected Havana cigars from trusted
company Hunters & Frankau.
John has worked throughout the UK and America
in places such as the Cotswolds, London, New
York, Boston and the Hamptons.
John had dealings with Hunters & Frankau, whilst
in Cartmel and it was his wish, to not only sell
great value, unique fine wines, but also fine cigars
and bring another dimension to the cafe, never
before seen in a eatery such as this.
His wife, Renata has worked in several prestigious
restaurants in Alderley Edge, Cheshire before
going down the wealth-management route.
Eventually they both decided to go it alone and
open their own business. They have created a
relaxed and informal modern cafe during the
day and an exciting and vibrant restaurant in the
evening.
The cafe has had a great year and has maintained
the coveted title of number 1 eatery in the area
on Trip-advisor since February last year. The
ambitious husband and wife team, describe their
business as a different sort of cafe, using the best
that the area has to offer.
Their menu has influences from New York street
food, to healthy vegan dishes picked up in London
mixed with all cakes, scones and treats cooked

Cigars currently being sold, include such
favourites as H. Upmann, Corona Juniors,
Montecristo’s Petit Tubos and Romeo Y Julieta,
although it is anticipated the range will develop
and grow over time.
John has plans to incorporate the cigars with his
wine tasting evenings, which he hopes to restart
early in the New Year.
