INTRODUCTION
As the year draws to a close we have lots of
fun articles for you to read over your post
Christmas lunch cigars.
It has been a month of awards and we have a full
report from the Cigar Smoker of the Year Dinner
held at Boisdale in Canary Wharf which saw the
Cigar Smoker of the year award go to our cover
man Jonathan Ross. It was a glittering evening as
you will see. We have also been to see the winner
of the Habanos Sommelier Competition and we
have a profile of him together with news of the
winner of the Silver Chaveta.
Christmas is a time for celebrations and we
thought we should pay tribute to the end of the
anniversary year of Habanos Distributors Hunters
and Frankau by publishing the full list of the
cocktails which they created for their wonderful
summer party. The drinks were all named after
locations which were significant in the company’s
history and we have been lucky enough to
persuade all of the bar managers to give us the full
recipes and ingredients so that you can recreate
them for your enjoyment over the Christmas
period.
Christmas is a time when we all enjoy a
little relaxation, a cigar and possibly a small
postprandial libation, possibly a small whisky
or a balloon of Cognac to go with our cigar. We
searched the shelves of the finest stores to find two
whiskies and two Cognac’s which were created to
match a cigar and we asked Whisky blogger and
cigar lover Dave Worthington to undertake the
challenging task of matching them with a Partagas
D6, the top cigar from our blind tastings this year,
and give us his thoughts.
We have had some great guests and friends to
interview this year and we hope to continue to
share this rich vein of love of cigars in 2016. When
we interviewed James Suckling back in October he
didn’t quite finish his cigar during the interview
so, while he smoked on we kept the camera
rolling and asked him some more questions,
mainly about his views on the short term issues in
Havana.
So enjoy the festive season, may your cigars always
be long enough and your glass always full.
Merry Christmas from all of us at UK Cigar Scene.
