News from the Library

Finally, UISG entered 3 teams into an Interschool Math Olympiad competition. We are very proud of all students who participated and demonstrated teamwork, commitment and excellent mathematical reasoning. UISG received two medals for outstanding mathematical knowledge and understanding.

How long have you been working in the UISG library?

If anyone is curious about finding a comic to support a topic, please send me an email. I’d love to help!

Teachers, EAL students, and reluctant readers will all benefit from comics being used more in the classroom. It’s a medium that can be more easily accessed and understood than standards texts. There’s a plethora of research that supports this notion, but, if you’re keen, I recommend you start with Louisiana State University Professor, Suzanne Stauffer’s article: Developing Children’s Interest to Read. We have a copy available to read in the library.

If anyone would like to talk comics, or choose some for their children, please let me know. It could be a great opportunity to find common ground with your child, or it could be a chance for you to fall in love with comics!

Chloe Huang

Meet our library assistant

Chloe works with our entire school community on a daily basis in assisting library patrons with finding books, circulating library materials, and many other things. However, this year Chloe has taken on a new role, as well.

When classes from our Early Years Programme come to the library, she reads with the students and helps teachers find books. Her smile and welcoming demeanor have been a great fit with our youngest library patrons.

What is your favorite thing about working in the library?

How would you describe a day in the life of someone who works in the library?

A little over a year and a half.

The smile of the students, especially when they find the book they really wanted.

With a peaceful mind in challenging work, each day is a new start.
