Our mathematical learning also helped prepare the students for their camp in Thailand. Before we left students learned about exchange rates and used mental mathematical strategies to quickly and efficiently convert between Chinese RMB and Thai Baht. This skill was very useful while shopping in the Chiang Mai night market where we were given a chance to purchase souvenirs for our family.

Showcasing outstanding teaching and learning

Researching and manipulating results from the 2016 Olympics helped our students establish real life applications of decimals and practical computations when working with these. Students were then introduced to a range of games and tasks to help consolidate this learning while manipulating numbers to thousandths and beyond. We then began to look at very large numbers. We practised a range of strategies to solve equations and learning how to record and say these numbers correctly.
