16 weeks, 79 days and 3,950 minutes of Mathematics in Year 6

Showcasing outstanding teaching and learning

Our year began in August with the Year 6 Olympic Challenge. Students compared the distances and times of the results from the Rio Olympics. Students were required to add, subtract and multiply distances measured in meters and times measured in minutes and seconds.

Students acknowledged the tiny difference between gold and silver and realized what a difference a split second can make. Students then compared their own times from running over similar distances to help them gain an appreciation for the incredible feats the athletes achieve.
