Year 4 had an incredibly action packed UOI which featured a Science Fair Exhibition and a performance in collaboration with Year 3. Students began the unit with a range of interesting scientific ideas and knowledge and with the support and guidance of our Head of Science, Mrs. Batchelor within the year 4 team, students made amazing progress in their understanding and application of Science.

The scientific method was a key area of focus and this linked authentically with our Literacy focus of procedural writing, including instructions. Mathematical skills were also practically used in this unit with a need to measure accurately and record and analyse key data.

Sustainability was a key focus and after extensive research into sustainable and non-sustainable energy sources, the young scientists specialised and focused upon their preferred sustainable source including geothermal, solar, hydro, wind and biomass. Each child produced a detailed PowerPoint, a working (in most cases) model and a large display board to promote their chosen source. The culmination of this was to present to students across the school, teachers, parents and guests across a 2 day period on 10 and11 November. Seeing this Science in action was really an amazing experience.
