A truly international education

Education for the future

Joan Philp

As international teachers and families we are travellers. We are privileged to experience the colourful tapestries of other lands, cultures and learn not to generalise. Genuine opinions are formed by listening, connecting, sharing and critically reflecting, and the unique contributions and diversity of our peers and team members are to be treasured and valued.

We cannot ignore nor solve all issues of equity and the disparities in learning and living yet we should be appreciative and be accountable for opportunities we have. We sadly bid farewell to several supportive families this year who return to their home countries. We wish them all well and hope that our paths will cross again.

It is interesting that three of these transdisciplinary skills are directly related to personal and people skills and the way we respect, respond and collaborate with others. This recognises the need to build the open-minded and considerate leadership qualities we desire in individuals and communities of the future.
