Welcome to Depot Park Gainesville's Very Own "Central Park" by KATIE & VERN ROGERS Photos provided by CHRISTINE & RYAN WINGET featuring their son Landon On Saturday August 20, 2016, Depot Park celebrated its grand opening. If you haven’t played, partied, or relaxed at this newly rejuvenated spot just south of downtown Gainesville, make an effort to explore one of the area’s most recent beautification projects the next time you’re in town. The park is open from dawn to dusk year-round and free to visit. The site was formerly a train depot and industrial area that was remediated and redeveloped into a “contemporary public greenspace to serve as Gainesville’s ‘Central Park’.” Depot Park has been home to food truck rallies, public and private events and is quickly becoming a place where Gainesville residents and visitors gather on evenings and weekends. As a family, we have visited Depot Park a number of times and even had a family birthday party at one of the pavilions. The reservation process was simple and fee was minimal, the on-site management of our event by the staff was top notch, and all of our guests had a wonderful time. We would recommend this outdoor oasis to all of our family and friends – especially our Housing family! Check out Depot Park’s website, Facebook page, or Instagram account to view more about Depot Park, the events calendar, or the reservation process! 28 HRE ALUMNI MAGAZINE | UF STUDENT AFFAIRS The playground equipment was modeled after the old train depot.
