Move-in Day 2: On Wednesday, August 17 Jennings hosted
the Watermelon Welcome. The Watermelon Welcome was
designed for new students to interact with President &
Mrs. Fuchs and enjoy some watermelon. The event was a
huge success as over 100 students were in attendance.
The Jennings Rec Room (basement) was filled to the brim
with students, the Fuchs’, Head Soccer Coach Becky
Burleigh, and Albert and Alberta! Students were able to
get photos with the Fuchs’, Coach Burleigh and the Gators!

Move-in Day 3: On Thursday, August 18, President
and Mrs. Fuchs visited West Campus with tour
guide Sean Johnson. President & Mrs. Fuchs were
able to visit with many students moving in for the
first time. The evening of August 18 was IRHA’s first
Residence Hall Week event, a shaving cream fight in
the Yulee Pit. Broward Area Coordinator, Demarcus
Merritt, escorted the them to dinner at the Fresh
Food Company (aka Broward Dining) and then took
the them to the Shaving Cream Fight. President
Fuchs and Mrs. Fuchs were full participants in the
fight and a had great time with all.

Coach Burleigh said a few words and invited students
to attend the UF women’s first soccer game. President
Fuchs followed her welcome and then invited students to
check-out the apartment in Jennings! About 75 students
followed President & Mrs. Fuchs to their apartment on
Jennings ground west for a planned Tea Party. Students
crowed into the Fuchs’ Jennings living room and outside
porch. Hot tea, iced tea and snacks were served. The
Fuchs’ continued to mingle and interact with students
throughout the event. After an hour and half, everyone
squeezed into the living room for a group photo before
heading out. It was a spectacular event.

Move-in Day 4: On Friday, August 19, Matt
Pendleton and Ryan Winget escorted them over
to Cypress Hall to meet Area Coordinator Patricia
Jordan, her staff and students moving in. They
then traveled to the Murphree Area to meet Area
Coordinator Jen Gresley and went on an in-depth
tour of the most historic area on campus, including
the tunnels below Sledd Hall. The tour concluded
with meeting Hannah Frei at Infinity Hall. They were
very impressed with how far along the partnerships
in Infinity have progressed since they last visited a
year ago when Infinity Hall opened.

PRESIDENT FUCHS MOVES IN
Move-In Day 1: On August 16, President Fuchs & Mrs.
Fuchs volunteered to be GatorAides at Broward Hall and
assisted new students moving in. Although the Fuchs’
were staying in Jennings, this event started their weeklong tour of all campus buildings. The Fuchs’ first met
students moving into Rawlings and Broward Halls. Again,
many new freshmen had to recall who he was and many
of their parents and families recognized the specialness of
the moment. The Fuchs’ pushed carts, carried boxes, held
doors and broke a sweat with the students moving in on
this day.
Move-in Day 5: On Saturday, August 20, the Fuchs’
residential experience came to a close. They
returned their keys to the RAs working the checkin station and headed out. The Jennings staff loved
having them, and we think they had a great time
too! We are hoping for a return visit for Fall 2017!
