NITELINE'S NEW FRONTIER!

Niteline, the UCC listening line run by

students for students is adding a new

online listening element to its confidential

anonymous service. Between the hours of

9pm and 1am on Tuesday, Wednesday and

Thursday, students can log on our website,

at niteline.ucc.ie and log into an online chat

box to be connected to a Niteline volunteer

who will be there for them as they talk/type.

The principles of the Niteline service, both over the phone and online, are anonymity, confidentiality, non-advisory, non-judgmental and non-directive – we don’t tell you what to do, we just listen. Whether it’s college, or relationships or family, or anything

at all that’s on your mind, we’re here for you to talk to us – with no judgment.

If you’d like to become a Niteline volunteer, we will be recruiting

again over the coming months, so make sure you stay tuned to

our website. The process involves an application form, an

interview and 8 weeks of training (one evening a week) run by

the Samaritans. We want students of all ages and disciplines

to get involved, and to help us promote the service also!

Our promotions volunteers will be handing out materials and tea

and coffee during events like Peer Support Week (September 29th

to October 3rd) so please feel free to ask them for any information on the Niteline service that you may need. If you’re interested in getting involved or have any other questions contact

Rebecca Murphy, the Peer Support

co-ordinator, on [email protected]. If

you need support, please either

free phone 1800 32 32 42 or log on

to niteline.ucc.ie
