“The time has come, the Walrus said, to
talk of many things”. Well just one. It is
with great sadness I make this
announcement. I have decided to
discontinue publishing The Universal
Cavalier. There are several reasons
though the main one is the usual for
most enterprises. It is not financially
viable. I know many of you think
because it is on the internet there are no
costs and everything is free but there are
bills to pay such as digital magazine
publishers, website hosts, security and
other types of software, etc and then
there is my time which includes
everything from planning, researching
and writing articles, putting together
videos, laying out the magazine,
publishing it, writing and answering
emails and maintaining websites; well
you get the drift.
The last issue, and this one, have been
offered free instead of by subscription
and that did increase its readership
greatly. An issue is now being read by
between 2,000 and 3,000 people. But on
the flip side it needed advertising
revenues to support itself. It had been
hoped that with the increased circulation
it would attract advertisers. As you can
see in this issue the ads are sadly lacking
despite a deep discount offered.
It has also become clear to me that the
average person doesn’t really want to
