Mr Hannes ALPARSLAN
Project Officer Aviation Cyber , European Defence Agency – ( EDA )
Hannes started his career in IT back in 2001 in the public sector as system administrator and network architect and continuously progressed in this field . Parallel to his fulltime employments he also finished engineering high school for electrical engineering and computer science and a university study in Business Informatics with specialization in cyber security in which he holds a Master degree . In his professional career , he also was project manager for ICS ( industrial control systems ) in AT , DE and HU . Before joining EDA , Hannes spent 7 years at the Austrian air navigation service provider where he could follow his passion for aviation and further improve his knowledge and skills . His responsibilities included IT project management , SESAR , management and harmonization of ATM system architecture . Addressing cyber security , safety and improving the resilience of systems has always been an integral part of his activities . Hannes is currently aiming to establish a comprehensive approach to cyber security in military aviation to improve capabilities for ground , manned and unmanned systems and ensuring the consideration of specific military requirements on EU and international levels . This also involves increased coordination and collaboration with civil aviation organisations .

" Cyber Challenges for the military - Examples from the Air Domain "
Thanks to rapid technological advancements , we are approaching a future of unprecedented possibilities and capabilities . Some advantages either already materialized ( e . g . in the form of remotely piloted aircraft systems ) or are expected to have an important role in future military missions ( e . g . autonomous systems ) in times of conflict and peacetime . When we talk about military aviation it is important to also consider civil aviation and their ambitions towards increased efficiency . We see for example a direct effect of the SES – Single European Sky – initiative on military aviation . The anticipated benefits are fundamentally relying on and supported by complex information systems and the increased interconnection of sensors and systems on Land , Maritime , Space and Air . This intervention , shall provide you with a brief extract on what we in EDA see as prior challenges related to aviation cyber security and what our ambitions are to address them to assist our Member States in the development of their defence capabilities .
