Introduction
Municipal solid waste has a direct link to the income level of the population , the wealthier economies create bigger amounts of waste . To eliminate emission and harmful environmental impact of over consumption and production , we need to reuse and recycle the materials to reduce resource extraction . To have more sustainable economy , society and environment , the CE model can offer solutions for example in managing municipal solid waste . In this case , CE is related to recycling and reusing waste materials , consisting of papers , cardboards , cans and plastics . Two materials that have a big share in municipal solid waste are plastics and aluminum . This is because of the emissions produced in high processing and overuse of scarce virgin materials . Waste recycling companies can create value by integrating digital technologies , such as AI and robotics , in waste sorting and management processes to improve more precise sorting of waste materials .
AI-powered robots in municipal solid waste management
AI offers huge opportunities and solutions to our current world and municipal waste management systems are not left behind . One of the main benefits of using AI-powered robots in waste management is to replace humans , who work in toxic and human health dangering environments . Robots and automated systems can work nonstop and perform in challenging environments , for example , in sorting waste that possibly contains toxic pollutants . This way , AIpowered robots can increase efficiency in recycling and create value from waste . Using different sensors and visual recognition techniques in smart robots helps in more accurate material separation and leads to higher purity of sorted waste . This will help companies in achieving CE and sustainability goals .
