THE MAGIC CITY / BIRMINGHAM Birmingham is a vibrant urban community offering the perfect balance between small-town charm and the excitement of a lively city. From world-class entertainment at the Alys Robinson Stephens Performing Arts Center, to exquisite collections at the Birmingham Museum of Art, from film festivals and concerts, to renowned Southern cuisine, Birmingham offers endless choices for entertainment, dining, and cultural events. UAB employees change the world on and off the clock, volunteering with local charities and civic organizations. The restaurant scene in nearby Five Points South has earned wide acclaim, thanks in part to several establishments owned by award-winning executive chef Frank Stitt III. For lunch fare with flair, a diverse selection of food trucks has proven increasingly popular in recent years, offering quick but tasty meals to our bustling campus. When it’s time to unwind, you can take advantage of our growing craft beer scene and artisan coffee shops, which provide fun environments for UAB employees to socialize. For those who enjoy green spaces, Railroad Park serves as a wonderful community focal point and hosts many free events, while Red Mountain Park, Ruffner Mountain Nature Preserve, Oak Mountain State Park, and Moss Rock Preserve offer wooded seclusion perfect for relaxing and recharging. You’ll find minor league baseball action just blocks from UAB at Regions Field, home of the Birmingham Barons. And when the road calls, Birmingham’s central location makes it easy to get out of town for day trips and weekend excursions.
