QUALITY IMPROVEMENT
A unique cardiovascular leadership ( CVL ) service line structure was developed in 2011 , comprised of the division directors of cardiothoracic surgery , cardiology , and cardiac anesthesia , along with institutional leaders from nursing , surgery administration , outreach , and hospital administration . The group is charged to optimize quality metrics , identify resource needs , discuss these in the context of other hospital initiatives , and “ fast track ” programmatic decisions with institutional leaders , including UAB ’ s joint operating leadership ( JOL ). Leadership of the CVL rotates among the division directors of cardiothoracic surgery , cardiology , and cardiac anesthesia .
