HEART TRANSPLANTATION
TRANSPLANT & MECHANICAL CIRCULATORY SUPPORT
From the inception of the cardiac transplant program in 1980 through December 2015, UAB transplant surgeons have performed 1,011 heart transplants( including heart, heart-lung, and heart-kidney procedures).
• UAB performed 208 heart transplants from 2009 through 2015.
• Our foundation for success is a close working collaboration between the surgical heart transplant team and the advanced heart failure cardiologists.
• Heart transplantation continues to be a high-profile program within the UAB Division of Transplantation, with greater than 90 % survival at 2 years.
