The saying goes , “ It ’ s all about the journey , not the destination .” And what a journey it has been for the Tygart Hotel over the past 5 years ! It ’ s been filled with memorable moments , laughter , frustration , and excitement , often condensed into a mere 24 hours . Throughout this incredible ride , we ’ ve had the privilege of forming strong bonds and creating new friendships , all while working together to transform a dilapidated building into a shining gem and a vibrant centerpiece for downtown Elkins .
The Tygart Hotel embraces the rich history and promising future of West Virginia . Each floor pays homage to the timber towns of the past , with Oxley House named after the town of Oxley , which hosted the first “ speak loud ” during prohibition . The hotel proudly showcases commissioned art pieces by local West Virginian artists , showcasing their incredible talent . Revel in the beauty and creativity they bring .
Long ago , I had a former athletic director who spoke to me about college sports facilities . He emphasized that while we could raise millions of dollars and create top-notch facilities , it would all be in vain without the involvement of exceptional individuals to bring those facilities to life . Now , you may wonder what this has to do with a hotel restoration . Well , the Tygart Hotel is a stunning boutique establishment that will gain recognition not only within the state but also nationwide . The level of design , engineering , construction , maintenance , and customized procurement for each unique room is truly impressive . However , it is our team members who will truly breathe life into the property . Their embodiment of West Virginia Southern Hospitality will infuse the property with a distinct personality , leaving a lasting positive impact .
The support we received for the restoration project was truly incredible . This was especially evident during the hiring process for our opening team , as we were overwhelmed with over 600 applicants for positions at the Tygart . It ’ s truly amazing . Led by our exceptional General Manager , Shane Jones , the Tygart Hotel team is dedicated to ensuring that your time at our hotel is as relaxing and rewarding as possible .
Allow us to introduce a remarkable addition to the Elkins Culinary Scene , Chef Anthony Eads , who will delight you with his unique culinary style at Oxley House . To further enhance your experience , Jena Liggett , with her exceptional food and beverage background , will ensure that both your time at the hotel and in the restaurant is truly rejuvenating .
Last but not least , we warmly welcome Holly Ferguson , who will be leading our hospitality sales efforts for rooms , banquets , and events . She is the driving force behind our operation . We are committed to providing you with an exceptional experience at the Tygart Hotel .
We extend a heartfelt thank you to Dave Clark for envisioning the Tygart Hotel not just for what it was , but for what it could become . With unwavering determination , he diligently pursued various funding options , navigating complexities that rival Calculus 3 , all to bring life back to downtown Elkins . The audacity to take such risks is truly awe-inspiring . Dave , on behalf of Taylor Hospitality , it has been an absolute privilege to collaborate with you and your team on this remarkable journey to transform the Tygart Hotel into a reality .
