CRITICAL THINKING
Continued from page 9
My First Year !
I have really enjoyed my first year in the role. The
training day at Facebook Head Office was excellent,
with lots of ideas to take back to your school to plan
your celebration of Safer Internet Day campaign. In
school, I worked with the SPHE teachers to plan
activities and talks for Safer Internet Day. I made a
Webwise youth panellists with An Taoiseach and
Government Ministers
Kahoot quiz for classes to learn more about online
safety, made a digital pledge about my online presence
and shared this on social media. I also distributed the
funky SID wristbands. I’m a member of Tipperary
Comhairle na nÓg too, so I also used this opportunity to
raise awareness of online safety within my youth group
and local community.
Being involved with Webwise Ireland is a great way to
have your voice heard and to contribute to important
conversations about online safety, an issue which affects
us all. I also had the opportunity this year to attend the
launch of #BeInCtrl, a resource dealing with online
coercion and extortion; to take part in an Open Policy
Debate on Online Safety with the Taoiseach and other
Ministers, and to be part of a panel in Google discussing
Children’s Rights Online.
It is a fabulous opportunity to develop teamwork and
communication skills and an opportunity to be leader in
your school while also meeting other students from
around the country.
Training underway at Facebook HQ -
lots of opportunities for teamwork
