TRANSITION YEAR
FROM THE INSIDE
TYI AMBASSADOR JIANG O’NEILL REPORTING BACK ON HER TY
I have just come back inside
from building my snowman.
Since Ireland has shut down
these past few days it has
given me time to reflect on
my year so far.
When I entered TY I didn’t really
have any picture of it. There were
many different views when I
asked students such as it’s
boring, relaxing, fun and finally
it’s what you make of it. So I
decided I was going to really try
to make the best of the year. I
spent hours searching the web
and stumbled upon TY Ireland.
!
From there, I was introduced to
many opportunities, most of
which I didn’t even know existed.
I tried taking on as much as
possible, however, there is only
so much time and you have to be

selective. I set a lot of goals at the
start of the year. I am proud to
say that I have achieved many of
these goals but by no means all. I
struggle constantly with the ones
that got away. Maybe the big
lesson I take from this year so far
is to let things go and manage my
time efficiently.
!
So managing my time; I have
been a waitress, website
developer, sales director and
psychologist. In May I will be a
zoologist also, which I am looking
forward to very much. I hope that
it will not involve cleaning up

animal waste but something
more pleasant.
I believe one of the most
important things in TY is work
experience. You should pick your
work experience carefully so you
can get the most out of it and not
be bored out of your mind. If
your school is not taking TY
seriously then take the initiative.
!
I have experienced a great deal
this year and I feel more
confident about the future and
new situations. I have attempted
things I never thought I would do
like making speeches in public.
