We wanted to make our own free-speech social network. We don’ t need to anymore.
Meet GAB. AI
“ Gab is a social network that empowers anyone to create, consume, distribute and monetize their work under the auspices of free speech. Our mission is to put people first and to foster discourse without hindrance and proscription, as is occurring throughout the online community.”
We spoke with Utsav Sanduja, Chief Communications Officer for Gab. ai about the future of free-speech:
PH: Who do you think is more biased, Facebook or Twitter? GAB: We see a systematic wide problem amongst Big Social beyond the aforementioned. Whether it was Facebook’ s suppression of conservative news stories, the omission of Trending Hashtags on Twitter, the biases in Google’ s search engine results or Reddit’ s censorship of Wikileaks, there can be no doubt about this major issue.
PH: Many people would say that Gab is a Twitter for Trolls, what would you say to them? GAB: Firstly, I would respectfully challenge the premise of many. To the contrary we’ ve seen a select number of press outlets with a certain political bias describe us in disparaging terms. Nothing could be more further from the truth. Gab is for everyone and our mission is to challenge censorship on a global scale. Whether it is from authoritarian governments persecuting their own people, politically incorrect citizens engaging in peaceful and civil discourse or whistleblowers in establishment institutions seeking a safe refuge, Gab will always be there for them and the people.
PH: The first time I got a Gab follower and I heard that frog sound I shat myself scared. You, sir, owe me a pair. GAB: Gabby can get elated at times! He loves our wonderful user base. We have a strong sense of community on Gab. The mainstream media would be surprised to know how many illustrious users we have, varying from patriotic veterans, amazing mothers, independent musicians and entertainers, philosophers and even religious ascetics from all faiths of the world.
PH: We would all like a media network in the future where we could go for news, sports, entertainment, humour, gossip etc … – we like to think we’ re doing our part. Do you see this ever happening? GAB: Absolutely; the future belongs to the new counter-culture – new media, alternative tech and every day individuals around the globe championing the cause for freedom. Whether it is tantalizing and intriguing publications such as Public House Magazine in the UK, Gab, SLI. MG, Infogalactic or Breitbart and countless others, we all have an important mission ahead of us. Collectively, we are doing our part in serving humanity by breaking the glass ceiling of political correctness and challenging doctrinaire autocrats.
PH: How should we deal with becoming a pariah among our current one-sided community? GAB: There is no reason we should exculpate ourselves in any way. To take a page from the Glorious Revolution of 1689, we are merely championing the natural rights of Englishmen. Here on Gab, we believe that free speech is a fundamental right, one that is absolute and cannot be vitiated in any way. For us this is about engaging in the antiquated practice of Stoicism where a free exchange of ideas can be done without proscription. There are those that describe Gab and other bodies as an echo-chamber, but the reality is that we are a sanctum of enlightening disquisitions. Our user base from Central Europe discusses topics on Catholic theology; we have a number of users from India discussing the historiography of the Ramayana and Mahabharata. Some of our best conversations are on topics pertaining to autarky, leading to a plethora of views and even a schism of enduring, hard-held beliefs. It is our mission to promulgate this great online franchise, in hopes of bridge-building and promoting understanding amongst differing groups. If anything, Gab is a congenial chamber synthesizing and distilling thoughts of all kind and every kind.
PH: What’ s the most hilarious tweet you ever read? GAB: That time when Jeremy Clarkson gave his running commentary of Piers Morgan … would love to see them both participate in a contest. Perhaps Chef Gordon Ramsay can host a cook-off!
HA! Thank you so much for your time, I wish you all of the success and be sure we’ ll be working with you as a free-speech partner.
Cheers!
