In the Second installment of Twilight called New Moon we watch as Edward struggles with keeping Bella safe from his own family. When Jasper takes a lunge for Bella after she gets a paper cut Edward decides that it would be best he they left. He tells Bella he doesn’t love her so that she won’t try to come with him. Little does he know that this will destroy Bella.
She spends months feeling empty and alone. She has horrific nightmares and her father threatens to send her to her mother so she isn’t reminded of the pain Edward left her with. But Bella soon discovers she can see Edwards face and hear his voice when she is faced with danger. So with the help of Jacob she builds a motorcycle. But what she didn’t expect is that she would start to have feelings for Jacob. The changes also take their told on Jacob when he ends up becoming a werewolf. He is confused by the change and tries to push Bella away in order to protect her. Feeling abandoned Bella confronts Jacob and through a series of events she discovers his secret as well.
Things are going good until Alice shows up. She tells Bella how she thought she was dead after Bella had leaped off the cliff but Alice couldn’t see Jacob save her. Bella then has to go and save Edward from the Volturi who is the overseers of all vampires. Edward wants to die because he thinks Bella is gone. Once Bella convinces him she is alive they must convince the Volturi that Bella won’t be a threat. They agree to change her much to Edwards’s dismay.
