In fact Cheryl Cole might have considered it a breach of trust when a tattoo artist revealed that body art which had been assumed to cover only her lower back extended a bit lower.
However the Girls Aloud singer appeared yesterday to be revelling in the new-found attention over the daring design, featuring red roses. Conveniently for her it comes at a time when her career is in a lull.
The artist responsible, Los Angeles-based Nikko Hurtado, didn't name her when he proudly revealed his latest work but for anyone who had seen Cheryl perform recently, when she first unveiled the top part of the tattoo, it was glaringly obvious.
Within a few hours the singer confirmed she was indeed the owner of the tattoo (and the bottom) in the photographs, taken when the inking was done over two days about eight months ago.
Cheryl, who has already spoken of her tattoo addiction, wrote: "People are entitled to their own opinion. I've never really concerned myself with other people's body parts. I've had [the tattoo] for seven to eight months but only just had it detailed.
