Drama Monologue

Chinese people only talk and stay with their own people. They can exchange their passports between them, since they all look the same. They have small eyes, flat noses, yellow skin, and they are smelly. They are stupid; they don’t understand a thing; they steal- not only money and jewelry, but also our jobs. They don’t pay taxes; they destroy our environment. They cause pollution in the world – it is now worse than ever. Their children are a threat; they beat their children; they occupy our schools, our buses, our parks, and our country. They smoke and take drugs. Why don’t they go back to China?

How many times have you heard or even, SAID, “Cinesi di merda”? I think a lot.

You say that we only stay in our Chinese community: that we isolate ourselves, but I see things differently. Perhaps the previous Chinese generations may have had some difficulties in learning the language, so they preferred staying at home rather than going out and being ridiculed in front of people. Apart from the language, they also had big economic problems -that’s why they came to Italy. They wanted to create a better life that wasn’t possible in China. Before coming, they still had to make a decision, a really big one, a decision that might affect their lives forever, and forever isn’t a joke. It can mean your entire life. All of this added together, led to their hard working, to raise money for their children, and for themselves, as a consequence, they ignored social interactions. They forgot to make friends, not only with Italians who were foreign to them, but also with Chinese people themselves. However, we are still humans, the same as you, you, and you. Everyone says Chinese are yellow. Does our skin look like yellow? No! It’s just a natural skin color, and everybody has his/her own color.

We all live on Earth; we breathe the same air; use the same resources that Nature gives us, and we appreciate it, as everyone here does. We know how important nature is. We are creating huge projects to protect this wonderful planet, too. But eliminating pollution isn’t going to happen by clapping your hands or snapping your fingers. Try to consider the huge population of China.
