Australian Labor or Labour Party ( 3 )
In the final edition of the “ Australian Labor Party analysis , we will discuss the policies of the Australian Labor Party . Medicare , the former Prime Minister Bob Hawke reintroduced universal health care in 1984 . A major turnaround in the health system . Medicare is a sensitive area for the citizens of Australia . Prior to arranging their budgets and campaigns , parties need to analyze thoroughly when it comes to Medicare . The green card is in every Australian wallet and only comes out when they visit the doctors or hospitals . Its is also considered as a form of identification .
“ Everybody knows that you don ’ t set up a Medicare Privatisation Taskforce unless you plan to privatise Medicare . We need to stand up to protect Medicare .” Quoted by former Prime Minister Bob Hawke . I personally agree with the statement above . Medicare has revolutionised our health system especially for the low to medium income earners who are struggling to survive with daily expenses . Could you imagine having a health system where you have to pay out of your pocket every time you visit your local GP ? It would be devastating for millions of Australians who benefit from this particular scheme .
Protection of penalty rates , this will definitely disappoint many business owners but the truth is low income earners work hard and strive their best to make a decent living . Through extra shifts and the penalty rates the income earned contributes towards the expensive living standards . Low-income earners work hard to feed their family . Education has become expensive . If you want to provide decent education for your future representatives our children you desire for them to have the best education they can possibly have . This comes at a cost . This is why low income earners work harder to pay for the children ’ s school fees and the expenses that come with it . Labor has fought hard to protect the penalty rates for low income earners especially in the hospitality , retail , and fast food industries .
University and Tafe fundings , one major area government ’ s need to consider prior to making a policy is University and further study funding ’ s . Our future leaders , doctors , politicians , engineers , lawyers and the other professions graduate from these institutions . The Labor government has pursued to always protect the access of students to university based on their ability and the effort you place in order to commence your further studies . The balance in your bank account should not determine who should enter university or other educational institutions . Government funding for these institutions are essential . Some students might not be intellectually capable to enter university , but , their hands on skills could be utilised by teaching and developing their skills through TAFE education . These are reflections of the government ’ s ability and capability to fund our future representatives education .
School Funding , this concerns all Australian families . The Labor party is campaigning for further school funding to maintain high calibre education for our children . There are fewer teachers available ; there is less one-on-one interaction at schools due to reduced staff . There are also reductions in the ability of children ’ s ability to read , write and solve maths at school . We live in the 21st Century , there are still schools without air conditioning they operate with fans in the classrooms . How do you expect students to focus on their studies during summer when there is a heat wave . Our children deserve the best in education . They need to secure their future through quality education .” Labor believes Australian kids deserve the world ’ s best teaching ”.
Royal Commission into the Banking and Financial Services sector , There is definitely a problem with our banking system . Families , small businesses are struggling to survive due to fees and charges and high level of living standards , while banks and the financial institutions , while the big banks are making billions of dollars profit . Households have paid in total fees of $ 12.5 Billion dollars . On the other hand the banks make $ 30 billion in profit . Enough is enough . There needs to be a royal commission into the banking and Financial Services sector . These are some of the policies we will discuss in this final series of the Australian Labor Party .
One final issue which concerns everyone is foreign historical events are being introduced to the parliament . We have witnessed this especially within the NSW Parliament . The so-called “ Armenian genocide ” and “ Assyrian Genocide ” issues have been raised in the NSW Parliament . The MP ’ s our elected representatives were not even notified about the motion prior to the issue being raised in Parliament . The decision impacted the peaceful ethnic groups living in peace and harmony in Australia . Politicians should not be assigned to make a decision about historical events in the past . It is the duty of historians to make that decision . The NSW Labor Party Leader , Opposition Leader Luke Foley has promised not to raise international , foreign historical issues in parliament and cause hatred amongst different ethnic groups . Could the Premier of NSW , Gladys Berejiklian make the same promise ? I certainly believe she will be unable to keep her promise . The Premier has a duty to keep peace and harmony within the State . Unfortunately , the Premier of NSW in every opportunity that arises , raises the issue of the so-called ” Armenian genocide ” issue . Enough is enough Premer , the State has other issues that you need to focus and deal with . Issues like the health system , educations , hospitals , roads and traffic , developing nations are more advanced in technology and internet , the premier needs to pull her socks up and get a move on or else Hon . Luke Foley will be the next Premier . He has definitely closed the gap between Labor and Liberals in NSW . All Australian ’ s should be treated equally . The most essential point we all need to consider is we are all Australian . Your race , ethnic background , gender should not make a difference . We should all be treated with equality .
The Australian Labor Party has focused on the low to medium income earners . Policies such as Medicare , hospitals , Universities and Tafe ’ s , Schools , protection of penalty rates for hard workers , royal commission into banking and finance are major issues the Labor Party has focused on for decades .
This concludes the analysis of the Australian Labor Party for now . During next weeks “ Political Analysis ” column we will analyse the Liberal Party of Australia . rkısh

Battle for Balmain as Labor places faith in young gun candidate
It ’ s been seven long years since NSW Labor surrendered a treasured slice of its historical heartland to the Greens .
D
JAMIE PARKER estined to be billed as the Battle for Balmain - as it has been for the last two elections - the state election campaign of 2019 is shaping up as another litmus test for the parties ’ respective claims to the area as “ heartland ” country . Labor has invested its hopes in a fresh face , untainted by the scandals of its dying days in power , which saw it removed from government in 2011 .
Over the next year , Elly Howse - a 29-year-old feminist , inner west local , and public health PhD student - will attempt to pull off a feat that has so far proved impossible for even veteran politicians . NSW Labor has never taken back a state seat off the Greens once they have lost it . “ That ’ s a big thing that ’ s changed for Labor – putting forward young people to represent the electorate ,” Ms Howse said . A self-described “ underdog ”, she views the challenge through a bellwether lens . “ If I win Balmain it ’ s very likely NSW Labor will form government in the state ,” Ms Howse said . She hopes the prospect of a Foley Labor government – and her progressive credentials – will help win back voters who flocked to Greens MP Jamie Parker in 2011 . “ The only

people who can deliver on the promises they make are the people who can get into government . [ It ] is the most powerful thing you have to offer ,” she said .
Stretching from the affluent harbourside suburbs of Birchgrove and Balmain , taking in Lilyfield , Leichhardt and Annandale , and Glebe to the east , Balmain has gentrified beyond recognition from the working class suburbs where the Labor Party was founded in 1890s , but it has never lost its progressive leanings .
A rising talent in the party ’ s left wing , she counts as mentors Labor luminaries Tanya Plibersek , whose electorate office she worked in while an undergraduate student , and former Balmain MP Verity Firth . Mr Parker , a familiar face at rallies and town hall meetings across the electorate , is gunning for a third term . He claims Balmain has become “ Greens heartland ” in the seven years since he unseated Ms Firth in 2011 – a victory which cemented him in the history books as the party ’ s first-ever lower house MP . “ I don ’ t think [ the 2019 election ] is any different to any other election campaign . You always have to win the trust of the community every four years ,” he said .

Sydney Trains to turn closed ticket offices into shops
n IT is another sign of the changing face of Sydney ’ s rail network due to technology . Instead of tickets , train passengers will soon be buying other goods and services from scores of ticket offices which will have been turned into shops by November . With the Opal electronic ticketing system firmly entrenched , Sydney Trains has decided to lease out 30 ticket offices at stations across the rail network following their closure . The ticket offices to be leased to retailers range from those at stations at Gosford , in the north , to Wollongong in the south , and Central Station and Martin Place in Sydney ’ s CBD . They are located in prime spots at stations , and are up to 135 square metres in size . In a presentation to potential lessees , Sydney Trains said the introduction of Opal had ‘‘ streamlined operational and staffing requirements ’’ across its rail network and resulted in ‘‘ the creation of new retail opportunities ’’ in re-purposed ticket offices . n Canberra Airport ’ s “ bizarre ” and heavyhanded tactics are threatening to derail its relationship with the nation ’ s biggest airline , warns the chief executive of Qantas Domestic . The airport has been publicly at loggerheads with Qantas for months , repeatedly speaking out against the high cancellation rates plaguing flights between Sydney and Canberra . Canberra Airport has gone as far as seeking federal government intervention and recently met Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack to discuss the issue . Qantas Domestic boss Andrew David has now hit back . “ We deal with airports around Australia and around the world , and none of them behave the way Canberra Airport does . It ’ s bizarre ,” Mr David said . “ It ’ s hard to see how a company can think that attacking its biggest customer , which Qantas is , will improve matters .” Canberra Airport managing director Stephen Byron said it was crucial the two companies had a constructive relationship , but also important to prioritise customers .
