Get involved : Go to the school every chance that you can . Plan your off days , vacation days , personal days and even sick days so that you can visit your child ’ s school . This is a sacrifice that is well worth it . Children perform better when they know that you will come to the school . Staff responds better when you have established a relationship with them .
Communicate : You need to always know what is going on . Most teachers are easily accessible via email . This makes it easy to get quick updates about progress or potential problems . Some schools have webbased modules where parents can access curriculum . Make sure that the school has the best way to contact you and know that communication with them is a priority for you .
Technology : Computers , tablets , cell phones and even gaming systems all have internet access . There are tons of free resources online i . e .: dictionary , thesaurus and calculator . You can also use the Internet for research and to download worksheets and exercises . Some schools have access to tutorial sites and online text books .
Explore : Don ’ t be afraid to try new things and go different places . Experience different cultures . Expose your children to new and exciting things . This expands their mental capacity and broadens the scope of their thinking . You want to stimulate the mind and cultivate the desire to learn and grow .
Education resources : The public library , local museums , public programs , nature , etc . Seek out resources and programs for your family . Look for ways to learn and make it fun .
Community : Don ’ t be afraid to ask for help . You would be surprised at how many people are willing to mentor or tutor . You should also be willing to help others . No matter how little you may think that you have , you always have something to share . Connect with friends and family , who share common goals
and values . If you invest in each other , everyone benefits .
As a parent , you have to make a conscious decision to educate your children . It will require work , commitment and may be difficult at times .
