Don't Listen to K-Pop! Please?

By: Motoki Sugino

Although the K-pop world seems to be like a candy-coated fantasy, it contains many ugly points behind the scenes in which of the audience cannot see. Also, the number of artists in the industry has increased resulting with many songs that sound very similar. Even though, K-pop stars look perfect with their luscious hair, clear skin, and their chocolate abs, that is not the case all the time and often times, K-pop stars are up to no good.

October 2011, a very famous K-pop star called G-Dragon was caught smoking marijuana. This became a very large scandal because everybody did not expect this from G-Dragon the “good boy.” The scandal stayed for about 5 months and many articles were written by big journalist companies such as “allkpop.com”. Many of G-dragon’s fans, called V.I.P., defend G-dragon, blaming it on whatever else that is not him.

Some people may argue that K-pop is its own genre of music but others may say that the songs created recently all sound very similar, according to “NABEELA”. In the past years, when there were much less artists, the music was more unique and special for each singer and/or group. Nowadays, the music sounds all the same due to the fact that there are many more singer groups and some groups may sound similar to one of the other groups.

The K-pop world may seem like a clean and fantastic place but it has many flaws. Many artists admit to doing drugs and there are also many scandals between the artists. This shows the corruption of the genre and its artists. The K-pop world is falling apart and soon will no longer exist with only a number of fans.
