Mike Ozzie: The Scholar Rapper

By: Luciano Marchio

Many artists struggle to establish their musical identity, laboriously trying on different musical styles and tracks like a piece of clothing, looking to find what fits. But there are others that emerge fully formed, in full command of their craft, their identity and their music. Mike Ozzie fits firmly in this category. His new album, American Romanov, is a captivating and entertaining debut that advertises the arrival of a gifted and significant new talent. Not only talented but also smart, he’s a sophomore at the revered Bronx High School of Science. But over there he goes by the name of Michael Ossorguine.

A born and bred New Yorker growing up in Manhattan’s Upper East Side, he tried out some musical instruments as a child but stopped when he came across rap. He began writing songs in his head and thought that he could take his music a step further. Almost immediately, he began writing, mixing and recording. Mike was able to self-produce American Romanov, as well the space to experiment while making it. Mike currently has not been recording any new tracks, he’s dealing with finals and AP tests along with his other responsibilities.
